We are fortunate to have been working closely with Drayton Manor Resort for more than 20 years, and during this period we have designed numerous substructures and superstructures for rides, buildings and much more.
ASP provided civil engineering expertise for the construction of their exhilarating Gold Rush coaster. Our role was pivotal in ensuring the safe and stable foundation for the thrilling attraction.
The project presented unique challenges due to the complex topography of the site, requiring a tailored approach to foundation design. Our engineers designed and implemented a combination of reinforced concrete, piled, and raft foundations to accommodate the diverse load requirements across the coaster’s layout.
Dynamic loading, alongside the need to construct pockets for the ride columns to be positioned in, added further intricacies which needed to be accommodated for within the design phase.
A key aspect of this project was the management of varying ground levels. Our team engineered foundations at different heights to integrate with the coaster’s design which follows the natural topology. This, however, required close management and handling to
Additionally, we were responsible for the design of steel frame buildings essential to the coaster’s infrastructure. These structures were designed in accordance with theming requirements, whilst aiming to be as economic as possible
Our work on the Gold Rush coaster is a testament to our ability to deliver innovative and reliable structural engineering solutions for complex projects. By successfully overcoming the challenges posed by the sloping terrain and varying load requirements, we contributed significantly to the creation of a thrilling and unforgettable experience for visitors to Drayton Manor.
